Absence of my books in auction sites
I guess I'll just have to make a listing of all my inspirational books for sale in this blogsite papeltropikal. Watch out for it next week when I'm back from my vacation leave! Thank you for your patronage!
Millionaire Next Door
The book by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko, subtitled "The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy," was published Oct. 25, 1996. But the striking and profound findings revealed in that book a decade ago are as true today as they were then--especially when it comes to spending money.
The book showed that millionaires spend their money smarter than other people. They still do. ”Most important, the book showed that people with average, steady jobs can become millionaires over their lifetimes--that most millionaires are made, not born. Indeed, 80 percent of millionaires are first-generation rich, the authors found. They are modest. In fact, they might live next door.”
Financial health is about earning and spending. Although earning a lot of money is correlated with wealth, it's not a perfect correlation. Not everybody can play great offense. In other words, not everybody can make P1 million a year or even P100,000. "Given that, you have to look at defense. To play great defense, you have to know where all the money is going. And most people don't. You need to account for every centavo you've got and write it all down. You'd be shocked at how much money people waste. If you're looking at being happier by having more things, get a life."
This reminds me of a “perception” game played by participants of a “Corporate Image” seminar. They were asked to describe typical Cebuano and Manileno executives:
Manileno Executive --- a well dressed, gregarious, suave, flashy, charming public relations manager with a winning smile and a string of girlfriends. He always has time for his officemates and often invites them to a couple of drinks at a high-end bar. He likes to impress his clients by taking them out to dinner in a swanky restaurant. His family hardly sees him. He drives the latest car model and wears an expensive watch. Even if he earns a six- digit salary, he often complains that his pay is never enough. Cebuano Executive --- an unassuming and staid accounting supervisor with thick glasses and a bulky adding machine, sitting in a cramped room behind a stack of papers. Anyone who meets him says his personality blends well with the drab furniture. He is tightfisted with his money and doesn’t like "night-outs" with officemates. He prefers the company of his family. If he is unable to go home for lunch, he grabs food from his brown paper bag which is neatly tucked in his lower drawer. Even if he also works as bookkeeper of a few small companies, he prefers to commute by jeepney.
Between the two, who do you think they thought is wealthy?
On a scale of happiness, these "wealth accumulators" who are frugal with their money are quite happy, book author Stanley notes. "In fact, the more wealth you have, the higher your satisfaction." But their happiness comes not from material things but from achievement and being financially independent. It comes from satisfaction with their family and job. "There is absolutely no correlation between happiness and the brand of car you drive. It has nothing to do with it. What happens is before you buy the Porsche, you'll think it will make you happy, but it doesn't work that way. The guys wearing a Seiko or Rolex or drive a Toyota or BMW have no difference in happiness."
Stanley's research shows high-priced cars seem to be wealth-repellant. "What's interesting about spending is that everybody thinks all the millionaires in America have BMWs. Even among the highest income levels, about 60 or 70 percent have never owned a BMW," he said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. "I think BMW is a great car. I'm a car guy. But I won't buy one because there is a relationship between wealth and how much people spend for cars. There's no doubt about it. It's a significant relationship."
Stanley, who grew up poor in New York City, said the biggest thrill he ever had came a decade ago when "The Millionaire Next Door" approached No. 1 on The New York Times' best-seller list. To celebrate, he went out and bought a Toyota 4Runner. Where is that vehicle now, 10 years later, when he's a wealthy man? In his garage. "It has 140,000 miles on it," he said. "I'll never own a BMW or Mercedes or Rolex because ... I know how many people who are not wealthy but have the glitz. It says nothing about your inspiration, your wealth or anything else."

My Ebay Experience
There’s a relatively new presence in the
After surfing through their website, I can say that the scope and scale of Ebay's services are awesome.
I admire the way they are constantly upgrading operations and adding additional services. And most of all I like that they are adding new divisions.
Being a new "fan", I recently bought a book on eBay entitled the “Perfect Store.”
Did you know that eBay was a brainchild of a computer geek named Pierre Omidyar ?
What actually happens on the platform?
According to Andre Haddad, vice president of eBay user experience and design and former eBay managing director for
Isn’t that amazing ?!
Haddad said that there are two extremes thinking that eBay is a retailer and thinking that it's a marketplace in which there's no human intervention. Truth is eBay is a marketplace manager.
”Think about eBay as a neighborhood marketplace.”, he said,”It's at the intersection of commerce and community. Interactions are personal. eBay works at the tale end of the product lifecycle: collectibles and extremely new and scarce products.”
What makes eBay attractive to ordinary people? What drives the experience?
The framework's roles, policies, pricing, and education provide clear guidelines for trade. Ebay culture celebrates the community, listens, learns, and involves users in all steps of product development.
Where in the world can you find an organization where "the community" is king? Many users constantly provide.eBay with unsolicited comments and suggestions to improve site operations. And this is the only e-commerce site, I know, where people hang out to socialize while talking shop.
Take note, there are 400,000 people who work full time out of their homes making a living on eBay. The buying experience also brings a joy of discovery and excitement. "Winning or losing an auction at the very last minute is a very human experience. And the community experience encourages interaction and communication.”
After reading through my new book, I decided to take the plunge into the world of auction bidding. While searching for what to buy on eBay, someone suggested books.
I found someone online that sold a few I liked. I discovered the "feedback rating" system and checked out the seller. At the time he had been selling on eBay for about two years and had about more than 100 positives. Not bad I thought.
I bought one inspirational book for around P200 and paid by depositing in seller’s bank account.
Interestingly I emailed the seller before the purchase to "kinda" feel her out. In each case she replied promptly. "Good" I thought. The next day I got my package. I was impressed by the speed of delivery.
Ebay’s feedback rating system is not a perfect system since anyone can complain about anything but it has its merits.
Today, when I search for people to do business with, I check how long they have been selling at the auctions. I check how many negative feedbacks they have received and sometimes I check to see how they responded to the negative complaints. It is not foolproof but it works fairly well.
I tend to search out Power Sellers more often. Power Sellers have a lot to lose and they are very diligent in answering emails and mailing products promptly. Sometimes it's easy to find their physical address and their telephone/cellular phone numbers. This tends to increase "trust" and lower the fear/risk involved in buying from strangers.
It's seems funny how much we at the agency try so hard to encourage local businessmen to get involved in e-commerce, instead of just settling for brick-and-mortar type of stores. We keep trying to convince these traditional businessmen that they can find more buyers by also going online...yet we get a cold, uninterested response or they grudgingly set up a static site or join a free site installed by a foreign donor... all of which do not fully satisfy their business needs.
Now here comes an e-commerce organization that effortlessly and successfully encourages ordinary people, who don't even look like businessmen, to export products to other countries from home.
My point is... there may be a lot of small local "exporters" we don't know existed who are already doing business in the cyber market. And that eBay may know something we don't... . the right formula to a successful online business.
Think And Grow Rich Book And Ebook
Think and Grow Rich is a classic motivational book. Written by Napoleon Hill and inspired by Andrew Carnegie, it was published in 1937 at the end of the Great Depressio. In 1960, Hill published an abridged version of the book, which for years was the only one generally available. In 2004, Ross Cornwell published Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised (Second Printing 2007), which restored the book to its original content, with slight revisions, and added the first comprehensive endnotes, index, and appendix the book had ever contained.
The text of Think and Grow Rich! is founded on Hill's earlier work, The Law Of Success, the result of more than twenty years of research based on Hill's close association with a large number of individuals who managed to achieve great wealth during the course of their lifetimes.
At Carnegie's bidding, Hill studied the characteristics of these great achievers and developed fifteen "laws" intended to be applied by anybody to achieve success. Think and Grow Rich! itself condenses these laws further and provides the reader with 13 principles in the form of a philosophy of personal achievement.
Reflected in these principles is the importance of cultivating a burning desire, faith, autosuggestion and persistence in the attainment of one's goals. Hill also discusses the importance of overcoming many of the most common fears that can adversely affect one's thinking and potential.
Hill in his introduction to the book refers to the "Carnegie Secret", a conception which he reports is the foundation of all success and appears to be the premise of the book. Hill promises to indirectly describe this "secret" in every chapter, but never state it plainly, believing the use of the secret is only available to those who possess a "readiness" for it, a disposition Hill describes as essential to the concept itself.
Think and Grow Rich has sold consistently since its first publishing. Think and Grow Rich is currently ranked #9 on the BusinessWeek Best-Seller List for paperback business books and has been on the aforementioned list for 22 months as of April 2007.
For those interested, I am selling a physical book and a digital document of the same title.

As A Man Thinketh Book
Power Books recently opened at SM Northwing in Cebu.
I was surprised that one of the books sold there is "As A Man Thinketh." As A Man Thinketh or The Power Of Thought was written by James Allen in 1904. That's a long long time ago.
Mr. Allen was born in Leicester (central England) in 1864 and died in 1912. Although his writing career was short, he wrote 19 books.
His second book, As A Man Thinketh, is a classic and deservedly so.
The book is partly responsible for the creation of the entire personal development industry. Most contemporary PD authors and teachers credit this little book for providing foundation to their principles. It is a set of philosophical musings on the power of our thoughts. Earl Nightingale, widely regarded as the father of modern day personal development, called the ideas in this book, "The Strangest Secret". The secret, he said, is "we become what we think about.
The aphorism, "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he," not only embraces the whole of a man's being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life.
A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.
As the plant springs from, and could not be without, the seed, so every act of a man springs from the hidden seeds of thought, and could not have appeared without them. This applies equally to those acts called "spontaneous" and "unpremeditated" as to those which are deliberately executed. Act is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruits.

Bamboo is a group of woody perennial evergreen plants in the true grass family Poaceae, subfamily Bambusoideae, tribe Bambuseae. Some of its members are giants, forming by far the largest members of the grass family. New shoots of some of the larger species can grow over 1 meter per day.
Bougainvilleas are thorny, woody, vines growing anywhere from 1-12 meters tall, scrambling over other plants with their hooked thorns. The thorns are tipped with a black, waxy substance that is easily left in the flesh of an unsuspecting victim. They are evergreen where rainfall occurs all year, or deciduous if there is a dry season. The leaves are alternate, simple ovate-acuminate, 4-13 cm long and 2-6 cm broad. The actual flower of the plant is small and generally white, but each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by three or six bracts with the bright colors associated with the plant, including pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow. Bougainvillea glabra is sometimes referred to as "paper flower" because the bracts are thin and papery.

Abacá, from Spanish "abacá", is of great economic importance, being harvested for its fibre, called Manila hemp, extracted from the large, oblong leaves and stems. On average, the plant grows about 20 feet (6 meters) tall. The fibre is used for making twines and ropes. The plant's name is sometimes spelt Abaká.

Seaweeds are popularly described as plants, but only red and green algae belong to the kingdom Plantae). They should not be confused with aquatic plants such as seagrasses (which are vascular plants). Seaweeds are extensively used as food by coastal peoples, particularly in
Seaweeds are harvested or cultivated for the extraction of alginate, agar and carrageenan, gelatinous substances collectively known as hydrocolloids or phycocolloids. Hydrocolloids have attained commercial significance, especially in food production as food additives. The food industry exploits the gelling, water-retention, emulsifying and other physical properties of these hydrocolloids. Agar is used in foods such as confectionery, meats and poultry products, desserts and beverages and moulded foods. Carrageenan is used in preparation of salad dressings and sauces, dietetic foods, and as a preservative in meat and fish products, dairy items and baked goods. Alginates enjoy many of the same uses as carrageenan, but are also used in production of industrial products such as paper coatings, specialty papers, adhesives, dyes, gels, explosives and in processes such as paper sizing, textile printing, hydro-mulching and drilling.

Titanic Tales
This lavishly illustrated narrative of human interest stories from the Titanic recounts the building of the ship, its launching, its departure for the ill-fated voyage, and individual stories on notable personalities who were on the Titanic.
Titanic sank on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York via Cobh in Ireland on 15 April 1912 with the loss of 1,522 lives. She never made it. The White Star Line were the owners of The Titanic. In the middle of the night The Titanic struck an iceberg and eventually sank.
Several photographs of the Titanic were taken by Father Browne who left the ship at Cobh before the fateful voyage.
Many of the people on board were Irish emigrants who were due to sail on another ship that was cancelled. They boarded the Titanic at Queenstown (Cobh near Cork) and many of them perished.

Handmade Paper Products
Hi ! I'm showing you my first attempts at making bookmarkers and notebooks using local materials such as salago, abaca, sinamay, buli, seaweed paper, seashells and wood beads.
I found making bookmarkers frustrating because I wanted them laminated. But the peopel at biz depot will not laminate bulky items.
For my first handmade book marker. I used real flowers and leaves and came up with a product that would simply not dry after 3 whole days!
I'm getting my handmade papers from nuns who run a handicraft center. They employ underprivileged mountain folks.
I'm determined to help them out by using their papers and selling the products on the net. I hope you'll like them. I'm willing to give as bonus a cute handmade notebook for every six rolls of handmade paper that you purchase.
Scrapbook and Affirmation Cards From Handmade Paper
Maybe I should show you pictures of what I had done on Monday. I'm helping out the
nuns who are running a paper handicraft center for underprivileged mountain folks.
I hope you guys will purchase the handmade papers they made after I post it on this blogsite and at buyandsellplus.

The Murder Of Tutankhamen
ABOUT THE BOOK
For decades after the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb, the dazzling treasures found along with the mummy distracted many of us from the actual events of Tutankhamen's life. But take a look at the body itself--cranialX-rays reveal a location on the back of the skull that may indicate a hemorrhage, perhaps one caused by a deliberate blow. The question thus arises: Was King Tut murdered?
Egyptologist Bob Brier specializes in paleopathology, the study of diseases in the ancient world. In essence, he performs high-tech autopsies on 3,000-year-old corpses. (He's also taken part in a re-creation of Egyptian mummification techniques, including the extraction of the brain through the nasal passages.) Here, he examines the X-rays and other photographic evidence, correlating it with the research of other Egyptologists, and concludes that Tutankhamen was the victim of political and religious intrigues that developed into a fatal conspiracy. True crime buffs and historians alike will find much to like in Brier's fast-paced recounting of his investigations. (amazon)

buyandsellplus and other online auction sites
The online auction has been considered as one of the most successful e-commerce models. This can be proven by the growing number of buyers and sellers in proliferating auction sites, both local and international.
Online auction is the kind of business wherein participants bid for products and services over the Internet. The functionality of buying and selling in an auction format is made possible through auction software which regulates the various processes involved.
eBay, may be one known example. However there are local auction sites that have better or more improved facilities for both buyers and sellers. These are buyandsellplus, auction.ph and bidshot.
Bidshot was the first to introduce wireless services in auctions --- mobile-enabled for bid alerts and bidding, message boards and classifieds. Bidshot Dotcom Company went on to become the premier auction site for what was even then the world’s most advanced text-messaging culture.
However, my favorite auction site is buyandsellplus because it has free ad postings for sellers who offer their “services”. They also have this automatic reposting of ads. These conveniences save sellers time and money. Moreover, they will soon introduce their wireless services ---- you can post, delete, repost and repost ads, search for items, change and retrieve your password, place a bid or award an item anytime, anywhere using your mobile phone. The auction site will soon give you the option to receive SMS alerts and notifications for important transactions, items or account information.
As far as I know the
All auction companies do not actually sell goods that it owns itself. It merely facilitates the process of listing and displaying goods, bidding on items, and paying for them. It acts as a marketplace for individuals and businesses who use the site to auction off goods and services.
Globalization and the reach of the internet have allowed the online auction business to extend beyond its traditional realm of the trade in goods into the area of service provision.
The strategic advantages of online auctions include:
1. No time constraints. Bids can be placed at any time. Items are listed for a number of days (usually between 1 and 10, at the discretion of the seller), giving purchasers time to search, decide, and bid. This convenience increases the number of bidders.
2. No geographical constraints. Sellers and bidders can participate from anywhere that has internet access. This makes them more accessible and reduces the cost of "attending" an auction. This increases the number of listed items (ie.: number of sellers) and the number of bids for each item (ie.: number of bidders). The items do not need to be shipped to a central location, reducing costs, and reducing the seller's minimum acceptable price.
3. Large number of bidders. Because of the potential for a relatively low price, the broad scope of products and services available, the ease of access, and the social benefits of the auction process, there are a large numbers of bidders.
4. Large number of sellers. Because of the large number of bidders, the potential for a relatively high price, reduced selling costs, and ease of access, there are a large number of sellers.
5. Network economies. The large number of bidders will encourage more sellers, which, in turn, will encourage more bidders, which will encourage more sellers, etc., in a virtuous circle. The more the circle operates, the larger the system becomes, and the more valuable the online auction business becomes for all participants.
